The river is most easily accessed from Hwy 175 4 miles east of Frankston. Turn left at the sign pointing to the dam. Go right behind the Neches River Authority office past the road closed due to high water sign and park in the lot by the spillway. Drag 100 yards down to the rapid. You will be on river right, the rapid is on the river left side. Ferrying back and forth is no problem. If you have video equipment you can get better film from river left. That requires a twelve mile drive and a 300 yard carry down to the rapid.

To my knowledge this is the only real whitewater in east Texas, and it's only 35 minutes from my house. Life ain't all bad. Lake Palestine spillway is 500' wide and uncontrolled. During much of the rainy season the level will be between 346 and 347,1600 to 4800 cfs.
