Just below the Winding Stair after the river turns left is Edgar's Surprise. Edgar starts with waves which build and pass between large rocks and lead into a hidden diagonal ledge with a bad hydraulic below, eddy right behind the rock and drop out the bottom of the eddy. At the level shown the ledge would not be a real problem but at higher levels it is. The rapid is class II to class IV at high flows.
