Buffalo National River

After a decade of fighting dam builders the Ozark Society succeded in their effort to save the river. In 1972 The Buffalo was designated by congress as our first National River. This was a wise decision.

The ancient canyon is awe inspiring, the river not difficult(class I-II) which is a good thing allowing average folks to view sites usually reserved for skilled boaters. On Sunday 7/2/2000 we paddled from Ponca to Kyles Landing, a distance of 10 miles with a 1.4 mile side hike up Hemmed in Hollow. The most difficult part was rationing myself to 2 or 3 pictures per mile, at least I made it to the Hollow before my waterproof disposable ran out. We were: Steven Goff, Paul Goff, Kathleen Goff Miller, and me, Steve Miller.

The scenery was astounding, I didn't waste any pics on the rapids.
