Topographic Maps of Arkansas
This set of 7 cds covers most of Arkansas and parts of Oklahoma and Missouri.There are 1088 7.5 minute USGS 24000 scale topographic quads compressed and mosaiced into 16 quad blocks,giving you the ability to view and scan 16 times the area at one time without having to switch to another file.The total file count is 68 files on 7 cds instead of 1088 files on 17 cds on the equivalent USGS dlgv format.The clarity at all resolutions is equal or superior to the standard format.
The viewer,Mrsid from Lizardtech.com also has a cumulative measuring tool,fantastic for plotting the exact distances and gradients of streams and trails,another feature not available in the standard format.
While you can buy the standard product from the USGS or other sources for $50.00 or more per disk($850.00/17cds) I'll sell you the same info in a superior format for $84.00 on 7 cds. USGS data is public domain and can be shared or sold by anyone. I will share it with you for free or will put it on disk for what amounts to production cost.
From my site, www.paddleyak.com you can link to and download this information yourself,as I did. It took me months to download and compile it on cd.If you download 24 hrs per day with no interruptions or lost downloads on a 26.4k connection it would take 23 days.Believe me it isnt that easy.Even in the compressed format the files are over 4 gigabytes.I aquired the data for myself and am simply passing it along as cheaply as I can.
